Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sustaining Engineer to join the Audio Video Division in Shenzhen, China.
This role is well suited for a mechanical engineer who enjoys practical problem-solving, working close to manufacturing, and supporting products after launch in a global engineering environment.
Based in Shenzhen, the Sustaining Engineer works closely with the Sustaining Engineering Manager, U.S.-based Product Development, Operations, Quality, and Sourcing teams, and contract manufacturing (CM) engineering partners. Design changes are developed locally and submitted for review and approval through U.S.-based governance processes.
What Will You Do?
The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving released products within the Display Infrastructure (mounts) portfolio throughout their lifecycle. This role focuses on hands-on sustaining engineering execution, including engineering change orders (ECOs), design updates, manufacturing improvements, and customer-driven engineered solutions.
Sustaining Engineering & Technical Execution

Execute sustaining engineering activities for released products to support performance, manufacturability, quality, cost, and component availability.

Create, analyze, and document Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including issue definition, root-cause analysis, solution development, validation, and implementation support.

Develop mechanical design modifications to address component obsolescence, supplier changes, manufacturing improvements, quality issues, regulatory requirements, and product compatibility.

Support post-launch Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) improvements based on factory feedback and production performance.

Provide engineering support for customer-specific configurations and engineered solutions while maintaining consistency with product intent and standards.

Review, update, and create mechanical CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials in accordance with established procedures.

Perform engineering analysis as required, including tolerance analysis and basic structural or thermal assessments; exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) is preferred but not required.
Cross-Functional & Manufacturing Support

Collaborate closely with the Sustaining Engineering Manager and Shenzhen-based engineering resources to support assigned sustaining projects.

Work directly with contract manufacturer engineering teams to investigate production issues, yield challenges, and quality concerns.

Support supplier-initiated changes and second-source component qualifications in coordination with sourcing and quality teams.

Communicate technical issues, proposed solutions, and implementation details clearly in written English and participate in meetings across time zones as required.
General

Follow established sustaining engineering processes, documentation standards, and ECO workflows.

Contribute to continuous improvement of sustaining engineering practices through lessons learned and feedback.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in sustaining engineering, product engineering, or manufacturing engineering.

Working knowledge of Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes and controlled documentation systems.

Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Experience working with contract manufacturers or offshore production partners preferred.

Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.

Strong written English communication skills required; spoken English proficiency preferred.

Solid problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and practical solution development.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow through on assigned work.

Proficiency with standard engineering and office tools, including Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP preferred.
Minimum Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering required.

3–6 years of relevant experience in sustaining engineering, product design, or manufacturing engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience supporting mechanical assemblies such as metal, welded, or fabricated components typical of display and mounting systems.

Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) tools and methods.

Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments, particularly in Asia.

Familiarity with PLM systems and formal change-control processes.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role primarily involves seated work and regular use of a computer for design, analysis, and documentation.

Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

The role requires scheduling flexibility to support collaboration with U.S.-based teams across time zones, which may include meetings outside standard local business hours.
