Datacolor is actively seeking a Embedded Software Engineer to join our global workforce.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Embedded Software Engineer to expand firmware capacity for more product development and reduce integration bottlenecks across new and existing product platforms. Working under the technical guidance of a senior firmware engineer, this role will develop, test, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for ARM-based systems and will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, optical, software, research, test, and manufacturing teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role you will:
- Develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller and microprocessor-based product platforms using C/C++ or C# depending on platform requirements.
- Implement and maintain board-support packages, RTOS, peripheral drivers, device drivers, boot and startup functions, and hardware abstraction layers.
- Develop and maintain embedded software components, including peripheral interfaces, device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and application-level firmware features.
- Support hardware bring-up, prototype builds, firmware integration, system debugging, and design verification activities.
- Investigate firmware defects and system issues using structured debugging, logging, instrumentation, and root-cause analysis.
- Develop test cases and verification procedures, execute unit/integration/system-level testing, analyze results, and prepare technical test reports.
- Write clean, readable, well-documented, and maintainable code in accordance with team coding standards and configuration-control practices.
- Participate in code reviews, firmware design reviews, interface reviews, and cross-functional technical discussions.
- Use Git or other version-control systems to manage source code, branches, releases, and change history.
- Support firmware releases, manufacturing test needs, engineering tools, and production troubleshooting when required.
- Maintain and improve legacy firmware while contributing to the development of new product platforms.
- Work with the senior firmware engineer and project team to estimate tasks, identify risks, communicate status, and deliver assigned work on schedule.
Experience & Qualifications:
You have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in embedded software development.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++ and C#.
- Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex-M or similar microcontrollers and at least one commercial MCU platform.
- Experience with an RTOS such as FreeRTOS, RT-Thread, ThreadX, or Zephyr.
- Experience implementing or debugging common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and Ethernet.
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets and work effectively with electrical engineers during hardware bring-up and troubleshooting.
- Experience using Git or another modern version-control system.
- Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from senior engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies (a plus).
