Job Title: Termination Process Engineer

Summary/Objective: The focus of the Termination Process Engineer’s work will be to understand and
characterize key process variables, develop reliable process windows, improve the overall efficiency of
our termination processes, and minimize machine/process variation. The Process Engineer will need to
consider using multiple termination methods such laser welding/soldering, resistance welding, and
induction soldering to drive long-term process stability/scalability.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Lead and execute structured problem-solving experiments to identify key process variables using
DoE, (5W’s) and 8D type methodologies.
2. Develop standard manufacturing best practices, parameters, process windows, and work
instructions that improve the Samtec termination processes.
3. Develop formal testing, qualification, and process validation documentation.
4. Develop in-process measurement and monitoring capabilities to provide process feedback.
5. Communicate and work with technical suppliers to research and find new technologies that will
improve the quality and throughput of new and existing products.
6. Use Six Sigma DMAIC process to determine root cause/solutions to process challenges.
7. Use statistical methods to conduct process capability studies to determine if process is meeting
key requirements.
8. Develop process criteria to determine if design/process is ready for full volume production.
9. Provide general guidance, direction, and support to other engineering and operations teams that
improve termination processes.
10. Communicate effectively and work with other teams on ensuring new products, processes, and
tooling are compatible with downstream processes.
11. Lead meetings and presentations that communicate termination efforts and progress to
stakeholders within Samtec.
12. Collect and interpret data from other technical and operating staff involved.
13. Act as the owner/subject matter expert to collect and analyze data that pinpoints and drives
process improvement projects.

Required Experience:
1. 4-year degree in engineering, materials, physics, chemistry, or related discipline
2. 5+ years of engineering experience in design/development/manufacturing of complex
electromechanical assemblies
3. Experience launching new products and manufacturing processes into production
4. Solid understanding and application of physics and engineering fundamentals
5. Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data-driven root cause analysis
6. Must possess process engineering skills (process development/improvement, troubleshooting,
data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, root cause analysis, etc.)
7. Experience performing analysis of data in software such as Minitab and Excel.
8. Good understanding of process controls, part variation, manufacturability, process design,
process validation, assembly methods, and cost reduction methodologies
9. Experience with statistical analysis such as 6-Sigma/DMAIC methodologies
10. Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
11. Effective communication skills both written and verbal
Preferred Education:
1. Manufacturing, laser, materials processing and/or resistance welding background or experience
2. Other welding and joining technologies (ultrasonic, induction, etc.)
3. Experience developing high-speed cable/connector assemblies
