Key Responsibilities
As a Process Technology Modeling Engineer dedicated to Estane Thermoplastic PolyUrethane (TPU) reactive extrusion process, you will be part of the Process Technology team, focused on applying process simulations to support design, scale‑up, and manufacturing operations.
Your responsibilities include:
- Technically defining process and operational requirements to support development of advanced, physics‑based models
- Collaborating with the core modeling team to build models that accurately represent physical and chemical processes
- Applying CFD modeling and specialized extrusion modeling techniques to address Estane manufacturing challenges
- Supporting process design, optimization, and troubleshooting for Estane manufacturing operations
- Blending mathematical modeling with empirical testing to:
- Reduce experimental and pilot‑scale costs
- Improve scale‑up efficiency
- Maximize capital returns
- Partnering closely with process innovation and model development teams to accelerate technology transfer from:
- Laboratory scale
- Pilot scale
- Full production scale
Required Qualifications
- Education
- Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in process modeling and simulation in an industrial or applied research setting
- Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in CFD modeling using commercial software, such as:
- ANSYS FLUENT
- Siemens Star‑CCM+
- Siemens M‑Star CFD
- OpenFOAM
- Solid CAD skills for:
- 3D geometry creation
- Mesh generation for CFD simulations
- Experience with model verification and validation (V&V) methodologies
- Programming experience in C/C++, Python or equivalent
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint Project)
- Proficient in the English language for verbal and written communication
Preferred / Differentiating Skills
- Strong understanding of chemical reactions and reactive extrusion processes
- Hands‑on experience with reactive extrusion, particularly twin‑screw extruders
- Foundational knowledge of Aspen process modeling for chemical processes
- Experience with data analysis, analytics, and AI/ML applications, especially for time‑dependent or temporal process data
