China is Anglo American’s largest market and an increasingly critical jurisdiction, accounting for 50% of revenue in 2025 (USD 9.6 billion). This reflects not only strong demand but also deeper commercial exposure following recent portfolio changes. More broadly, Asia, within China’s sphere of influence, accounts for 76% of revenue. Historically viewed primarily as a sales destination, China’s role is expanding across supply chains, equity investment, and innovation, alongside growing institutional and commercial engagement. In response, Anglo American is adopting a more proactive and nuanced approach to strengthen relationships, navigate geopolitical sensitivities, and capture emerging opportunities in this evolving landscape.
Job Description
What you'll do
This role supports the Manager – Corporate Affairs, China & Northeast Asia by executing government relations, stakeholder engagement, and corporate activities across China. It assists in strengthening Anglo American’s strategic positioning by building and expanding relationships with key stakeholders, managing executive visits, and coordinating high-level conferences and events. The role ensures that activities align with Anglo American’s Purpose , strategy, values, and business priorities in China and Asia more broadly.
The role collaborates with internal teams such as Group Legal & Corporate Affairs, Marketing Corporate Affairs and CMTs, and AARTC, as well as external partners, to implement initiatives that advance Anglo American’s corporate reputation, foster key relationships, and support the company's long-term growth in China.
KEY TASKS
Government Relations (China & Ex-China)
- Support the drafting and implementation of the China Corporate Affairs strategy and engagement plan through research, analysis, and coordination activities in alignment with the Manager’s direction.
- Maintain and update stakeholder mapping and analysis to identify, prioritise, and track relevant government, regulatory, and non-government stakeholders, supporting engagement planning and execution.
- Monitor and analyse the policy, regulatory, geopolitical, and macroeconomic environment of China and the relevant countries
- Track and analyse peer company activities, industry positioning, and engagement approaches, providing insights and supporting recommendations to inform Corporate Affairs strategies and priorities.
- Prepare high-quality briefing materials, policy summaries, and analytical reports that translate regulatory and political developments into actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
- Maintain structured records of stakeholder engagements, policy developments, and regulatory interactions to support reporting and follow-up activities.
- Support the assessment of stakeholder engagement activities by compiling outcomes, insights, and supporting analysis for senior review.
Executive Visits, Conferences and Events
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of senior executive visits, conference participation, and high-level stakeholder engagements under the guidance of the Manager.
- Assist in the preparation of tailoured briefing materials, talking points, background notes, and stakeholder profiles for meetings with government officials, regulators, and key external partners.
- Coordinate meeting logistics and engagement preparation with government and external stakeholders, ensuring all materials and arrangements are completed to a high standard.
- Support the planning and coordination of corporate participation in key conferences (e.g., China Development Forum), forums, and industry platforms, ensuring alignment with strategic messaging and engagement priorities.
- Provide operational and on-the-ground support during executive visits and events, ensuring smooth execution and timely resolution of issues.
- Support post-event follow-up, including tracking action items, engagement outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to ensure continuity of engagements.
BU & CMT Corporate Affairs Support
- Support BU and CMT teams by providing Corporate Affairs input to help advance their business objectives in China.
- Contribute to ensuring alignment between BU and CMT activities and broader Corporate Affairs priorities.
- Support coordination between Corporate Affairs and BU/CMT teams to enable effective collaboration.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Work closely with the Manager to support delivery of Corporate Affairs objectives in China.
- Collaborate effectively across Legal & Corporate Affairs, Marketing Corporate Affairs and CMTs, AARTC, as well as other internal and external stakeholders to implement initiatives.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment and continuous improvement of processes and outputs.
- Provide back-up support to the other Specialist to ensure continuity of activities.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Demonstrate behaviour in line with health, safety and environmental standards and with the Group’s values.
- Set the health, safety and environmental expectations for your team and monitor behaviour so that it meets the required standards.
- Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership.

- Adhere to all Anglo American Group and Marketing policies and procedures, as well as observing proper standards of conduct relating to the role.
Qualifications
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Government Relations, International Relations, Public Policy, Communications, Languages, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience in corporate affairs, government relations, public policy, or stakeholder engagement within multinational organisations, consultancies, or agencies.
- Experience working on China-related policy, regulatory, or stakeholder issues, with familiarity navigating government and international environments.
- Professional fluency in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.
- Excellent business writing skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality briefing materials, reports, and senior-level documents tailored to different audiences.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise complex policy, regulatory, and geopolitical developments into clear and structured insights.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs under tight timelines.
- Good stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions, seniority levels, and cultural contexts.
- Experience supporting senior leadership engagements, including preparation of materials, stakeholder coordination, and execution of meetings or events, is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently on defined workstreams while maintaining alignment with broader Corporate Affairs objectives and guidance from the Manager.
