Aufgaben

The Ergonomics Specialist is accountable for the end-to-end definition, optimization, and governance of ergonomic concepts at vehicle level. The role ensures that vehicle architecture, systems, modules, and components are designed to deliver best-in-class human interaction, comfort, safety, usability, and accessibility, while balancing functional, design, weight, cost, and regulatory constraints. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Ergonomics Specialist Engineer acts as the authoritative ergonomic reference within the vehicle development organization, shaping concepts, resolving complex trade-offs, and driving ergonomic excellence throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle. The role serves as a central integrator, influencing cross-functional stakeholders and embedding ergonomic principles as a core element of vehicle design and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Own and lead the development, evaluation, and validation of ergonomic concepts for vehicle interiors and exteriors at complete vehicle level, ensuring optimal occupant comfort, accessibility, usability, and safety across diverse customer use cases.
Act as the escalation and decision point for complex ergonomic topics, resolving conflicts between ergonomic requirements, design intent, packaging constraints, and technical feasibility, and defining robust, vehicle-level solutions.
Independently conduct and steer advanced ergonomic assessments using digital and physical mock-ups (DMU), simulations, and prototypes, ensuring compliance with international and local ergonomic standards and internal guidelines.
Translate customer requirements, market insights, and user feedback into concrete ergonomic targets and design requirements, proactively identifying improvement opportunities and addressing systemic issues rather than isolated complaints.
Lead cross-functional alignment with platform organizations, design, marketing, R&D, production, and suppliers to integrate ergonomic principles early and consistently throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.
Prepare, consolidate, and present ergonomic evaluations, risk assessments, and clear recommendations to senior stakeholders and decision boards, actively influencing concept selection and development decisions.
Define, monitor, and ensure compliance with ergonomic clearance, reachability, visibility, and usability requirements for all packaging-relevant systems and components at vehicle level.
Steer and support component and system releases from an ergonomic perspective, ensuring maturity, robustness, and readiness in line with defined development milestones.
Continuously develop and maintain ergonomic standards, methods, and best practices, incorporating new tools, technologies, and industry trends, and driving their adoption across projects and platforms.
Act as a subject-matter mentor and knowledge carrier, supporting capability development within the organization through guidance, reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifikationen

Demonstrated passion and deep professional expertise in automotive ergonomics and human factors engineering, with a strong commitment to user-centered vehicle design.
University degree in engineering, ergonomics, human factors, industrial design, or a comparable technical discipline; advanced or specialized education in ergonomics is an advantage.
More than 10 years of proven experience in automotive ergonomics, including vehicle packaging, dimensional concept development, and ergonomic validation at system and complete-vehicle level.
Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with ergonomic assessment methods, including digital and physical mock-ups (DMU), simulations, and prototype evaluations.
Ability to independently analyze complex ergonomic challenges, balance conflicting requirements (design, packaging, cost, weight, feasibility), and derive robust, vehicle-level solutions.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to clearly present ergonomic risks, trade-offs, and recommendations to multidisciplinary and senior audiences.
High degree of self-reliance and ownership, with a demonstrated willingness to take responsibility for decisions and outcomes in ambiguous and complex development environments.
Creative and analytical thinking skills, enabling both innovative concept development and structured problem-solving.
Professional presentation and moderation skills, including the ability to influence decisions in reviews, workshops, and management forums.
Proficient experience with Siemens NX; experience with Siemens Teamcenter / Engineering Client and RAMSIS is preferred.
Excellent command of English; German language skills are an advantage but not mandatory.
