Mid- to Senior Associate - Construction Advisory & Disputes (Shanghai or Beijing)

About the role
As a Senior Associate, you will advise clients on a broad spectrum of construction matters, ranging from live project support to formal dispute resolution processes such as arbitration, court proceedings, mediation, and adjudication. You will take the lead in strategic case management, negotiate settlements, and deliver optimal results for clients. You will collaborate with stakeholders at every level, including clients, experts, witnesses, and external counsel, to build trust and achieve successful outcomes. Drafting impactful witness statements and court documents will be part of your remit, ensuring clarity and confidence in every case. Your commercial insight will allow you to deepen your understanding of clients’ businesses and sectors, so you can provide truly relevant advice. You’ll not only support and inspire your team by sharing expertise and upholding high standards of excellence but also monitor fee budgets efficiently, keeping both partners and clients informed every step of the way. You will seek out and share marketing opportunities to expand your network and the firm’s reach, while contributing to the broader vision and strategic direction of Pinsent Masons.
What we are looking for
- 4–7 years PQE; ideally at Senior Associate level.
- Strong international experience in construction law—contract review, drafting, claims, negotiation.
- Technical expertise, commercial mindset, and enthusiasm for business development.
- Outstanding work ethic, communication, and client focus.
- PRC and/or foreign legal qualifications (highly desirable).
- Degree from a top law school (PRC or international).
- Excellent English and Mandarin (written and spoken).
- Proactive, collaborative, and highly organised
