Lead a Strategic Transformation: Drive the end-to-end data technology and architecture agenda for HSBC China, from strategy to execution, directly influencing business outcomes and competitive positioning.-

What you’ll do:
As the Head of Data Technology, you will be accountable for:
Strategic Delivery & Execution: Lead the execution of the data delivery roadmap in China, leveraging scaled shared service capabilities—including data ingestion, data asset refinery, and advanced analytics & visualization—to achieve best-in-class performance.-
Architectural Leadership: Own the data architecture strategy for HBCN, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and aligned with Group-level principles. You will govern architectural standards, preside over design authorities, and guide teams in building solutions that are fit for purpose and future-proof.

Business Value & Investment Optimization: Partner with the China CIO and regional leadership to unlock tangible business outcomes. You will help optimize the data tech project portfolio, manage data tech budget allocations, and track data-at-scale benefits across all business lines.

Governance, Risk & Compliance: Lead the adoption of Group data and architecture standards and policies. You will partner with Risk Stewards to manage data risks, oversee regulatory compliance, and engage with regulatory bodies on matters of data residency, privacy, and security.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration: Serve as the primary technology partner for local business units and global functions. You will work closely with key stakeholders including COO, CIO, Architecture, Data Leads, Finance, Chief Control Officer, Head of Analytics, Data Privacy, Legal, Regional Data & Architecture Office and other leaders to ensure strategic alignment and provide transparency on all data initiatives.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Education and Experience
Academic Background: A Master’s degree (e.g. MBA, Computer Science) or a Bachelor's degree in a Technology/Engineering field with commensurate practical leadership experience.-
Industry Experience: A proven track record in a senior technology leadership role within the banking or financial services industry, ideally with direct exposure to the complex, highly regulated Chinese financial market.

Enterprise Delivery: Extensive experience designing, leading, and operating complex enterprise-level data programs and multi-year transformation agendas at a global financial institution.

Matrix Leadership: Demonstrated success driving results and building high-performing teams across boundary lines in a highly complex, matrixed global organization.
Technical and Professional Capabilities
Mastery of Data Technology & Architecture: In-depth technical knowledge of modern data platforms (e.g. Cloud Data Platforms), data warehousing, and data governance tools. Expertise in designing and implementing data architecture models, including streaming/batch orchestration, data modeling, and API-led integration patterns.-
Strategic Program Management: Strong expertise in IT program management, agile/waterfall frameworks, budget planning, portfolio optimization, resource management, and risk profiling.

Regulatory and Risk Acumen: Robust understanding of data-related regulatory guidelines, data privacy landscapes, security governance, and operational risk frameworks applicable to financial systems in China.
Leadership and Soft Skills
Inspirational Leadership: A strong visionary style with the ability to build cohesive working relationships, negotiate, and exert influence outside of direct reporting lines to drive cultural consensus.-
Stress Tolerance & Agility: Resilient and adaptable; capable of directing resources and prioritizing deliverables effectively under high-pressure scenarios with rapidly changing priorities.

Communication & Articulation: Exceptional presentation, written communication, and executive-level storytelling skills—with a proven ability to translate complex technical and architectural concepts into clear business benefits.

Language Proficiency: Fully bilingual with native or professional-grade fluency in both English and Mandarin (written and spoken).
