Job Summary
You will help build and run the bank's AI Factory platform — the shared engineering substrate that takes AI and GenAI use cases from prototype to regulated production. The work spans a hybrid estate (Databricks, Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, on-prem GPU clusters) and modern agentic patterns. As the AI portfolio grows, your job is to make each new use case cheaper, safer, and faster to ship than the last.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and operate MLOps and LLMOps pipelines that take models and AI applications from development through to production.
- Build reusable deployment templates, SDKs, and tooling so that AI teams can ship use cases without reinventing the stack each time.
- Instrument AI applications for observability and evaluation — tracing, automated quality gates, LLM-as-Judge scoring, and drift detection.
- Engineer for cost: profile inference and token spend, and enable safe model-switching between frontier and open-source models.
- Embed governance into the platform — residency controls, kill switches, audit trails — so compliance is a by-product of delivery rather than a separate step.
- Run the production estate: incident response, GPU capacity, endpoint redundancy, and on-call.
- Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, and application teams to take their use cases live, and feed reusable patterns back into the platform.
- Integrate with enterprise tooling (ServiceNow, ELK, central observability) and uphold security, risk, and SLA requirements.
- Perform code reviews and keep the platform narrow, well-paved, and maintainable rather than sprawling and bespoke.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
- Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
- Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
- Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
Key stakeholders
- AI Factory architecture and engineering leadership
- T&A and TTO management
- Chief Data Office and central data governance
- Software Engineering Platform Teams
- Business technology teams across Trade, Cash, Financial Markets, Risk & Compliance, and Retail
- Operational, Technology & Cyber Risk; Group Internal Audit
- Compliance, Regulators, and the independent AI governance function
Skills and Experience
- Hands-on with MLOps / LLMOps pipelines on Databricks and on-prem GPU clusters.
- Strong Python; comfortable building and publishing SDKs and developer tooling.
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform) and CI/CD (Azure DevOps or equivalent).
- Experience instrumenting LLM applications and running evaluation harnesses (LLM-as-Judge, ROUGE / BLEU / BERTScore).
- Working knowledge of at least one agentic framework (Pydantic AI, ADK, Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph) and agent infrastructure (MCP, A2A, Temporal).
- Experience with frontier model serving on Azure AI Foundry and/or AWS Bedrock, alongside open-source model deployment.
- GPU capacity planning and optimisation for inference and training.
Qualifications
- Education: Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Experience: 4–6 years in MLOps / LLMOps / platform engineering, with at least one cycle of taking an AI or ML system from prototype to regulated production.
- Technical stack: Databricks, Azure DevOps, MLflow, Terraform, Azure and AWS; PyTorch / TensorFlow; AI Foundry, Bedrock, on-prem inference.
- Programming: Strong Python (bash and TypeScript useful).
- Data engineering: Streaming (Kafka, Solace), batch ETL, document processing.
- Problem-solving: Bias toward standardisation; able to spot when a one-off should become a template.
- Communication: Able to work alongside application and business teams and translate between engineering and risk/compliance audiences.
