State Street Investment Management is looking for a Senior Application Developer with Bachelors (5+) years’ experience for our Engineering & Business Service Platform Team, a part of Technical and Business Architecture Solutions. This is a hands-on individual contributor role that requires strong full-stack problem-solving skills, deep Python expertise, and a proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade automation platforms in financial services.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in data framework and data platform development, with the ability to leverage cloud technologies and distributed platforms such as Databricks to support multi-source data transformation, integration, computation, and production delivery. They have hands-on experience in building data quality frameworks and establishing systematic monitoring and governance mechanisms. The candidate is familiar with factor-based and index-related data calculations and their application in investment decision-support scenarios. They also demonstrate strong business understanding, technical execution, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to drive complex data initiatives to successful delivery.

What You Will Be Responsible For

Serve as a key contributor to data platform and data framework development within the Babel project team, supporting end-to-end delivery from solution design and framework implementation to production rollout.

Contribute to the development of scalable platform capabilities covering Basic Tools, AI Tools, Skill Tools, Data Tools, Calculation Tools, and External Connectors, enabling the continuous evolution of complex data processing and automation use cases.

Design and develop Databricks-based workflow and orchestration capabilities that support sequential, branching, parallel, loop, and batch execution patterns, combined with run-state management, result persistence, and intermediate artifact handling to improve maintainability and reusability of complex data pipelines.

Contribute to design and implementation of an object-oriented data quality framework in Python, enabling multi-dimensional data governance and monitoring across completeness, accuracy, consistency, and usability.

Apply Spark, Pandas, and NumPy extensively in large-scale data processing, analytics, and computation development, supporting the construction and optimization of complex data workflows.

Contribute to multi-dimensional financial factor data computation and processing to support investment research and investment decision-making use cases.

Build and deliver data transformation, integration, persistence, and downstream application workflows across multiple heterogeneous data sources, leveraging cloud technologies and distributed data platforms to improve delivery efficiency and scalability.

Contribute to the development of task automation solutions based on the AutoSys Job scheduling system and cloud databases, transforming manual operational tasks into standardized and automated processing workflows.

Follow and help enforce engineering standards, including code quality practices, CI/CD pipeline design, Docs-as-Code documentation principles, and testing practices across project delivery.

Collaborate closely with APAC business stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, translate complex manual processes into automated data workflows, and iteratively deliver value aligned with business priorities.

Proactively identify, monitor and escalate project-related risks, compliance issues, and operational exceptions to ensure delivery meets governance and control expectations.

Act in accordance with Risk Excellence and demonstrate strong professional ethics, accountability, and sound decision-making throughout technical delivery and cross-functional collaboration.

Education & Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; background in Finance, Economics, or Financial Engineering is a strong plus.

Bachelor’s degree with around 5 years of experience in information technology, software development, or data engineering; experience in asset management, financial services, or enterprise-scale data projects is preferred.

Solid hands-on experience in Python development, with practical knowledge of Spark, Pandas, and NumPy for data processing, transformation, analytics, and workflow automation.

Experience with Databricks, relational databases, or big data platforms; strong SQL skills and familiarity with database systems such as Oracle, MySQL, or similar technologies are preferred.

Demonstrated experience contributing to the delivery of enterprise applications or data solutions across the full lifecycle, including requirement analysis, solution design, development, testing, and production delivery.

Experience in the asset management industry or broader financial services domain is preferred, with an understanding of data workflows, cross-team collaboration, and basic expectations around accuracy, stability, and compliance.

Demonstrated hands-on ability to apply new technologies to real business scenarios; experience with AI technologies such as large language models, AI-assisted development, Agents, RAG, or intelligent automation is a plus.

Strong product and delivery mindset, with the ability to understand business needs and translate them into practical, well-structured technical solutions.

Proven ability to take initiative, experiment with new ideas, and deliver end-to-end — from concept to working software — with a bias for action and a hands-on approach.

Exposure to cloud platforms is preferred; knowledge of or certification in AWS would be a plus.
