This role will serve as the product head of Ocean Freight for Greater China with overall management of ocean freight procurement, pricing and tender.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the local Ocean Freight strategy for Greater China, including product development, carrier strategy, market penetration, target setting and growth initiatives.
- Manage ocean freight pricing, procurement and tender support for local, regional and global bids, ensuring competitive and commercially sustainable solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with preferred carriers, non-preferred carriers, agents and local subcontractors to secure competitive rates, capacity and service levels.
- Negotiate freight rates, local charges, service agreements, capacity commitments, incentives and related commercial terms with carriers, agents and subcontractors.
- Act as the key contact for carrier selection, routing guidance, allocation decisions, freight terms and operational carrier agreements.
- Partner with Country Sales, Corporate Ocean Pricing and branch teams to drive ocean freight growth, support customer meetings, prepare proposals and participate in joint sales calls.
- Lead or support project bids, tender pricing, customer solutions and execution plans for strategic ocean freight opportunities.
- Monitor market developments, freight trends, capacity conditions and ocean product performance, and provide timely updates to management, sales and branch teams.
- Track KPIs, volume performance, allocation compliance, cost of sales and service performance; recommend actions to improve profitability, service levels and business growth.
- Manage local procurement and allocation decisions in line with global, regional and country carrier policies, including short-term capacity adjustments where needed.
- Maximise volume incentives and procurement benefits in alignment with company business objectives and carrier strategy.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to the development of new or modified ocean freight service offerings.
- Ensure all procurement, pricing, routing and commercial decisions comply with company policies, Delegation of Authority, confidentiality requirements, legal and ethical standards.
- Coach and guide junior team members to support capability development, performance improvement and succession planning.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Supply Chain Management or relevant qualifications
- 10 to 12 years' experience in Freight Forwarding or Logistics Industry
- Strong knowledge of pricing and procurement for ocean freight and international trade legislation compliance
- In-depth knowledge of practices relating to different trade lanes with network of carrier contacts
- Strong negotiations, data analysis and contract management skills
- Strong change and people management skills
