Discover consumer insights and unmet needs. Plan and execute mixed-method research—including ethnography, interviews, diaries, surveys, CLT/HUT, in-home studies, remote and lab usability testing, and analytics—using inclusive sampling and realistic usage contexts.
Translate evidence into product direction. Synthesize findings into clear consumer needs, Jobs-to-Be-Done, experience principles, and evidence-based user requirements with measurable acceptance criteria.
Own user requirements and traceability. Create, maintain, and improve high-quality user requirements, linking them to consumer insights, use-related risks, design decisions, verification/validation activities, and final evidence.
Lead usability engineering throughout development. Drive usability-related risk assessments; identify foreseeable use errors, misuse, comprehension gaps, and experience risks; and ensure these are addressed through product design, interface design, instructions, packaging, and supporting content.
Embed consumer research and usability evaluation into development. Establish research and evaluation checkpoints across concept, prototype, design refinement, and launch-readiness stages. Use formative studies to improve solutions early and summative evaluations to confirm that users can use the product safely, effectively, and intuitively.
Define and execute product validation. Develop iterative validation plans covering usability, product performance in use, user acceptance, instruction comprehension, and overall consumer experience. Select appropriate methods, including expert reviews, usability tests, in-home use studies, competitive benchmarking, and external evaluations.
Partner across functions to shape the proposition. Work closely with Design, R&D, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, and Consumer Care to align consumer needs, proposition intent, claims direction, usability targets, and technical or business trade-offs—making consumer impact visible in decisions.
Ensure compliant and responsible research practice. Maintain accurate, well-structured research and usability-engineering documentation. Ensure studies and outputs meet applicable ethical, quality, privacy, safety, regulatory, and Philips requirements.
Drive post-launch learning and improvement. Monitor ratings and reviews, consumer contacts, returns, complaints, and other field evidence with Consumer Care and Quality. Size and prioritize issues, recommend improvements to product, requirements, instructions, or communication, and verify impact through follow-up evaluation.
Benchmark externally and maintain test-house readiness. Monitor external benchmarks and engage relevant consumer test organizations where applicable to understand assessment protocols, anticipate experience risks, and prepare products and evidence for independent evaluation.
