Position Overview
This position is responsible for conducting activities towards research, development, demonstration and analysis of electric propulsion systems especially power electronic technologies for electrified vehicles to support corporate strategy development. Activities include modeling, design, simulation, controls, prototyping and testing.
Job Responsibility

Review technical literature, state-of-the art technologies and market trends to stay informed about emerging and current technologies and methods in the area of power electronic components and systems for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Work with identified suppliers of e-propulsion/ power electronics to analyze, test and integrate technologies into Magna products.

Solve engineering challenges in power electronics and e-drives through innovative cutting-edge solutions.

Innovate/identify methods, architectures to improve power density, efficiency, cost and reliability of power electronic components such as DC/DC converters, traction inverters and battery chargers.

Perform model-based simulation, design, analysis and optimization of complex systems including power electronic components, motors, electric loads, battery and controls using tools such as Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, SPICE, PSIM, PLECS, Ansys.

Analyze structures and magnetic components such as bus bars and high frequency transformers/inductors.

Characterize power semiconductor devices.

Support software, mechanical, systems, test, quality, and reliability engineers.

Develop and implement controls into embedded systems for power electronics and e-drive testing.

Support and share knowledge with other Magna Groups (e.g. Powertrain and Magna Electronics).

Support the corporate research & development teams with technical projects involving power electronics and controls.

Work with external teams to innovate, develop, integrate and validate power electronic technologies and methods.

Develop documentation of simulation results, design, methods, related studies and analyses

Specify requests and coordinate sub-contracted work (i.e. FEAs, Product Validation and Testing, Prototype parts manufacturing, CAD drawing file conversion) and assure timely completion.

Present papers participate in symposia and committees on behalf of the group.

Continuing education and/or training is critical as technology evolves.

Qualifications
Education
-
Master’s degree or above in electrical engineering with exceptional qualifications and experience in research and development (product, material or process).

PhD preferred
Experience
-
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in automotive power-electronics, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
-
Power electronics experience is a must, experience in electric powertrain, electrified vehicle system areas in addition to power electronics experience preferred.
