Imagine what you could do here! At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. We bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish.
In this highly visible role, you will lead selection, implementation & optimization of iPhone manufacturing processes for mechanical enclosure machining, surface treatment. Lead team to design outstanding process based on product drawing and cosmetic requirements; mapping out proper process flow and ERS which includes selecting processing equipment, designing corresponding fixtures, initiating DOEs to find out the best recipe.
Description
Apply your mechanical engineering expertise and work cross-functionally with Product Design and Industrial Design to assess product features for manufacturability, and recommend capable production processes and equipment. You will provide critical leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramps. Coordination of activities and direction through clear communication between Asia- and US-based teams, and vendors is a necessity.
You will also work closely with fellow Manufacture Design Engineers in the development of these processes.","responsibilities":"Drive development of manufacturing processes-including CNC, laser, assembly, and surface treatment-by assessing process flows, reviewing fixture design for manufacturability (DFM), and applying proper datums to minimize tolerance stack-up.
Scope machining programs to optimize cycle times, and develop advanced cutters with specialized coatings to achieve highly shiny or fine texture surfaces while minimizing burrs.
Establish machine calibration criteria, down-select equipment based on capability, and work with vendors to develop, validate, and qualify brand-new equipment from RFQ to implementation.
Collaborate with suppliers to define and refine mechanical tools and fixtures, establishing process readiness to secure dimensional and cosmetic requirements.
Lead cycle time reductions in the NPI stage to hit mass production targets, and review vendor in-process control specifications based on downstream processes and 2D drawings.
Identify, research, and qualify premier equipment manufacturers and suppliers to develop sophisticated equipment that fulfills supply chain requirements.
Partner cross-functionally with Global Supply Managers to assess facilities, and with Manufacture Quality Engineers to drive yield improvements through SPC and Pareto data reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in Titanium or metal component manufacturing processes (including MIM and additive manufacturing like LPBF/DMD), alongside knowledge of raw materials, assembly, testing, and customized machine development.
Familiarity with AIML, lean factory principles, and proficiency in Python, C++, and SQL.
Understanding of characterization tools (such as SEM, XRD, MTS, XPS, FTIR, RIB, and TEM), as well as CAE or simulation (FEA) tools.
Willingness to work from OEM factories for on-site build support, coupled with the ability to work independently and travel frequently in Asia.
Motivated, results-oriented, and detail-oriented team player.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related manufacturing field.
5+ years of hands-on experience and technical knowledge in fixture design, cutter design, and manufacturing processes (including CNC, laser, assembly, and surface treatment) within the consumer electronics industry.
Proficiency in CAD, CAM, JMP software, and GD&T to make data-driven decisions.
Proficiency in written and oral communication, with fluency in both English and Mandarin.
