At Leggett & Platt's Pacoma GmbH in Eschwege, Germany, we are a global leader in hydraulic cylinders and motion technologies serving the construction, material handling, agriculture, and industrial markets. Our Engineering and Automation teams support the development, integration, and optimization of technologies that improve product performance, manufacturing efficiency, and operational reliability. Sensor technologies play a critical role in monitoring equipment performance, collecting production data, enhancing quality, and driving innovation across our manufacturing processes and products.
As a Sensor Engineering Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience working with sensor technologies, data acquisition systems, and engineering applications within a manufacturing environment. You'll support projects related to sensor implementation, testing, process monitoring, and data analysis while collaborating with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams. This internship is ideal for someone interested in sensors, automation, mechatronics, industrial systems, and data-driven problem-solving.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of sensors used in manufacturing processes and product applications.
- Support data collection and analysis from sensors, monitoring systems, and testing equipment.
- Help evaluate sensor performance, reliability, and accuracy to support operational and engineering objectives.
- Participate in troubleshooting activities related to sensor systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition equipment.
- Assist in developing and maintaining technical documentation, test reports, and engineering specifications.
- Support engineering projects focused on process monitoring, automation, predictive maintenance, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to identify opportunities for sensor-based improvements.
- Assist with laboratory and production-floor testing to validate sensor functionality and system performance.
- Help analyze trends and operational data to identify process inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, manufacturing performance, and product innovation.
- Ensure compliance with company safety, quality, and environmental standards during all project activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in sensors, instrumentation, automation, and industrial technology.
- Basic understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to interpret technical information and engineering data.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment.
- Ability to work onsite at Pacoma GmbH in Eschwege, Germany.
- Previous coursework, projects, or internship experience involving sensors, instrumentation, electronics, or automation systems.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems, PLCs, industrial controls, or embedded systems.
- Experience using programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of sensor technologies including pressure, temperature, position, flow, vibration, or force sensors.
- Experience with electronic testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data loggers.
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0, IoT, predictive maintenance, or smart manufacturing concepts.
- Knowledge of CAD software and technical drawing interpretation.
- Exposure to hydraulic systems, industrial manufacturing, or motion control technologies.
- Interest in pursuing a career in automation, controls engineering, sensor technology, or industrial innovation.
