- University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program.
- Generally, fifteen years of directly related experience in the industry.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and train others. Good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in English. Speaks credibly in area of own expertise with ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical way.
- Able to develop and present training materials using a variety of methods (group presentations, video, etc.).
- Detailed knowledge of UL Solutions Laboratory operations and technical vocabulary common to involved skill sets.
- Working knowledge of UL basic safety principles.
- Working knowledge of involved test methods.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new or unusual product testing. Working knowledge of involved industry issues, needs and problems.
- Working knowledge of ULS Conformity Assessment Services, Follow-up Services and Standards development process.
Ability to perform as a respected technical resource for peers, management and constituency.
DATA CENTER KNOWLEDGE:
Expert knowledge of data center laboratory evaluation methods, including development and global standardization of test approaches for electrical infrastructure, power conversion, distribution, backup power, cooling-support systems, and mission-critical assemblies.
Advanced understanding of high-voltage, DC voltage, high-current, and high-capacity laboratory systems, including safe test architecture, source and load strategy, grounding and bonding requirements, and risk controls for abnormal-condition testing.
Ability to define laboratory capability roadmaps for emerging data center technologies, including equipment specifications, facility readiness, staff competency needs, and standardized operating practices across laboratories.
Demonstrated expertise in complex test-lab instrumentation and automation, including programmable power sources, power analyzers, data acquisition systems, control integration, thermal mapping, and digital tools that improve repeatability and efficiency.
Experience leading design, validation, and troubleshooting of custom laboratory setups for data center applications, including fixtures, controls, safety interlocks, transient-event capture, and setup verification.
Ability to collaborate with Principal Engineers, technical leaders, operations leaders, and laboratory teams to translate changing data center standards, technologies, and customer requirements into test methods, equipment plans, and training programs.
Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, product standards, and data center frameworks as applied in a laboratory environment, including UL and IEC requirements, ANSI/TIA-942 expectations, and ASHRAE thermal guidance.
