About The Role
Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology ( https://www.nature.com/nrm/ ) is a world-leading journal that publishes authoritative and accessible Reviews, Comments and Research Highlights that cover the best research from across the spectrum of molecular and cell biology research. The journal’s broad scope ensures that the work we publish reaches the widest possible audience. Topics covered include (but are not restricted to): gene regulation; nucleic acid metabolism; chromatin and chromosome biology; nuclear organization; cell signalling; cytoskeletal dynamics; cell adhesion and migration; proteostasis; protein structure and metabolism; stem cells.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and proactive Associate or Senior Editor with expertise in any area of molecular or cell biology. This intellectually stimulating role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of science communication and influence thinking across key areas of the field.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and will be located in our Beijing, Shanghai or Madrid offices. All employees will be expected to be based in the office in line with Springer Nature’s hybrid working policy.
Role responsibilities:
- Commission journal content including narrative Reviews and short opinion pieces- Scientific Comprehension
- Work closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, and line-by-line editing final manuscripts before acceptance -Scientific Comprehension, Decision Quality, Communicates Effectively
- Organize and manage peer-review
- Liaise between authors and the internal Art editors to ensure the best visual communication of ideas in figures and other display items -Communicates Effectively
- Contribute to editorial strategy and planning
- Write Research Highlights and other editorial content -Scientific Comprehension, SN-Scientific & Academic Writing
- Interact extensively with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences, virtually or in-person
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential :
- A PhD or equivalent experience in any area of molecular or cell biology
- Demonstrable ability to edit scientific text for sense, clarity and factual correctness
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate speciality
- Willingness to travel to meet scientists, discuss their research and Reviews ideas, and advocate for the journal
Desirable:
- Experience with computational biology is welcome
- Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position.
