Medicinal Chemistry Scientist job description
Job Title: Medicinal Chemistry Scientist (Location Shanghai, China)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Medicinal Chemistry Scientist to join our Shanghai R&D center Chemistry team. You will be responsible for the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecule drug candidates. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent PhD graduate or an early-career scientist from a prestigious institution to make a direct impact on our pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
· Molecular Design & Synthesis: Design, synthesize, and purify novel small molecule compounds to support Hit-to-Lead (H2L) and Lead Optimization (LO) programs.
· SAR Development: Establish and refine Structure-Activity Relationships (SAR) to improve potency, selectivity, and physicochemical properties (e.g., LogD, solubility, metabolic stability).
· ADME/Tox Integration: Collaborate closely with DMPK, biology, and in vivo pharmacology teams to design experiments and interpret ADME and PK/PD data for rational compound design.
· Data Analysis & Presentation: Analyze experimental data (NMR, LC-MS, HPLC), troubleshoot synthetic routes, and present findings clearly in internal project team meetings.
· Intellectual Property: Contribute to the preparation of invention disclosures, patent applications, and scientific publications.
Qualifications:
· Education: Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related discipline. A strong academic record from a QS Top 100 globally ranked university is highly preferred.
· Experience: 0 to 3 years of post-doctoral or industry R&D experience. (Candidates expected to graduate in the near term are highly encouraged to apply).
Technical Skills:
l Deep understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and modern medicinal chemistry principles.
l Hands-on experience with multi-step organic synthesis, purification, and structural characterization.
l Proficiency in using chemistry software (e.g., ChemDraw, Reaxys, SciFinder) and data management systems.
Soft Skills:
l Strong problem-solving abilities and a growth mindset.
l Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin (ability to articulate complex chemistry concepts to cross-functional teams).
l Strong teamwork spirit with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial yet rigorous environment.
