Mission of the Role:
Lead software development and execution of Power Electronics controllers with features for products that include OBC and DCDC converters. Interact closely with the customer and internal teams to understand the system software specifications, collaborate cross-functionally to develop and define software specifications for Power Electronics products. The candidate is responsible for developing software features based on the roll out plan to meet customer milestones, support software architecture, and define specifications. Work with platform development teams, global hardware and software teams towards flawless execution. The candidate will also support new customer pursuits, startup new projects to insure they are aligned to the Visteon’s Electrification roadmap and overall product line strategy. We are looking for a candidate that has a good understanding of safety critical embedded controller software development and modern computational technologies with experience/expertise in integrated power electronics.
Key objectives of this Role:
Lead software development to deliver software features for Power Electronics Products. Lead development of PE features such as converter controls, OBC
Understand/analyze the requirements, design constraints to support development and implementation of the software architecture for Power Electronics features.
Identify architectural constraints for the architectural level (project, domain, application) based on technical and organizational requirements and decompose them to architectural levels below.
Lead new feature studies, define interfaces and high-level architecture, create feature roadmap.
Support and present new customer pursuits, prepare technical content and help win new electrification projects.
Develop the software architecture and concepts to meet Cybersecurity and Functional Safety
Mentor the PE software team to develop complex controls software for the Power Electronics
Perform code review and give feedback.
Prepare appropriate technical documentation.
Key Performance Indicators:
Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: Leads technical challenges during the development process. Deep level understanding of Power Electronics topology to identify and resolve system-related issues promptly and efficiently.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Electrification projects usually involve cross-functional teams. This KPI assesses the software architect’s ability to collaborate effectively with other team members, communicate ideas clearly, and contribute to the overall success of the project.
On Time Delivery: Track percentage of software milestones delivered on schedule against feature roll out plan and planned timeline.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Deep understanding of Power Electronics topology, power converts to develop the OBC and DCDC converters. Evaluate the ability of the software development lead to track the implementation of innovative ideas, adoption of new technologies, and improvements on development process.
Intellectual Property (IP) Creation: This KPI measures the engineer's contributions to intellectual property creation, such as patents, innovative software solutions, and defensive publications. It highlights their ability to develop novel concepts and protect valuable technology developed within the organization.
System Performance: Assess the system's responsiveness and efficiency in handling various electrification processes. This KPI could be measured in terms of response times, throughput, or processing speed. Understand the Functional Safety and Cybersecurity and apply the principles in software & system design.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in Electrical, Computer Science or equivalent
5+ years of experience in Power Electronics controls and software development
2+ years experience with Modeling and Simulation for the Power Electronics controls development using modeling and simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Plecs etc.
Deep level understanding of Power Electronics topology for OBC, DCDC converters.
Experience as a software development lead is a plus.
Experience developing embedded real-time safety critical software systems.
Experience in developing software to meet Functional Safety and Cybersecurity
Experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, LIN. Automotive Ethernet is a plus.
These qualifications and deliverables are indicative and may vary based on the specific needs of the organization and the Senior Software Development Lead’s role.
