The PolarDB Control Plane team builds PolarDB — Alibaba Cloud’s flagship cloud-native database — focused on high performance, elasticity, and intelligence. We pioneered innovations including:
- Serverless architecture with dynamic scaling (50%+ cost savings, million-core scheduling).
- Industry-first multi-primary and HTAP support for real-time analytics.
- Full localization on domestic platforms (Hygon, Kunpeng, Phytium), serving finance, government, and telecom.
- Early exploration of Data + AI integration, with vector search and AI node scheduling.

What You’ll Do
As a Control Plane Development Engineer, you’ll design and develop the core system powering PolarDB on public cloud, driving breakthroughs in scalability, reliability, and automation:
- Build key control plane components: cluster management, resource orchestration, HA/DR, and automated operations.
- Optimize Serverless auto-scaling for better performance and cost efficiency.
- Lead full-chain adaptation on domestic hardware (spec design, compatibility, tuning).
- Integrate with cloud infrastructure for consistent delivery across heterogeneous environments.
- Explore Data + AI use cases: AI scheduling, vector engine integration.
- Enhance observability and automation to serve tens of thousands of enterprise customers.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or higher in CS/Engineering; 3+ years in distributed systems, cloud, or database development.
- Proficient in Go, Java, or C++; strong in system design and debugging.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or cloud orchestration — deep code knowledge preferred.
- Prior work on database control planes or high-availability systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with domestic CPUs (Hygon/Kunpeng/Phytium) or OS adaptation in China is highly valued.
- Passion for cloud-native, Serverless, HTAP, and Data + AI trends.
- Self-driven, innovative, and able to lead complex modules from design to delivery.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
