About The Role
International Trade Practice
The FTI Consulting International Trade practice is a truly global practice that operates seamlessly across all jurisdictions and industries to provide timely, comprehensive and practical advice. We help our clients navigate the complexity of export controls and sanctions compliance by simplifying them into manageable, actionable, and auditable internal controls. Our consultants provide insight into the possible interpretations of new sanctions based on foreign policy and national security priorities. We help clients comply with export controls and sanctions laws by carrying out due diligence, preparing licenses and licensing strategies, designing risk models using advanced data analytics, developing practical policies and procedures, and crafting training programs that correspond to the culture and risk-profile of their business.
What You’ll Do
Managing and supporting client engagements involving export controls, sanctions, customs compliance, investigations, disclosures, licensing, and transaction advisory matters.
Researching and monitoring local and global export controls, sanctions, customs, and trade compliance regulations and updates with the ability to interpret government regulations and apply business knowledge to client operations and compliance programs.
Conducting export controls, sanctions and customs risk assessments, compliance reviews, audits, and gap analyses, including evaluation of internal controls and remediation measures.
Utilizing Sanctioned Party List (SPL) screening systems and conducting SPL screening, including screening settings, fuzzy matching algorithm, SPL selection, alert adjudication, etc.
Performing export classification, jurisdiction and applicability analysis, license determination, license applications
Supporting research and drafting of project proposals and broader business development initiatives.
Preparing written analyses, summaries of findings and Communicating observations and findings to engagement stakeholders.
Developing and enhancing compliance programs, policies, procedures, training materials, and governance frameworks.
Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with client personnel.
Supporting trade compliance reviews, including first sale program, country-of-origin, valuation, tariff, import compliance matters.

What You Will Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree with 6-10 years of relevant experience in export controls, sanctions or global trade, either in an in-house compliance role or from professional services.
Strong knowledge of global export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations, with expertise in U.S. and China regulatory regimes, is required, specifically like including the U.S. Export Administration Regulation (EAR), OFAC regulations, China Export Control Law, China Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, Unreliable Entity List regime, and related import/export regulations, etc.
Experience with SPL screening, forensic investigations, licensing, or compliance program development is highly desirable.
Experience in project management, liaising with multiple internal and external resources and reporting to senior management and clients.
Experience advising multinational companies on export controls, sanctions, customs, or broader trade compliance matters is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
Ability to reliably meet deadlines and manage multiple time-sensitive matters simultaneously.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office tools, screening tools, and other trade compliance software.
Self-starter, able to work independently, multitask, set priorities, and execute in a timely manner. Great teammate with a positive demeanor.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional global teams and drive issues to conclusion.
Professional certifications related to export and sanctions compliance, such as the Certified Export Controls Specialist (CXS), the Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS) or customs, legal, accounting, or compliance disciplines are advantageous.
Strong work ethic and integrity and high level of professionalism.
Ability to travel when requested.
Proficiency in English and Chinese is required.
