As we expand our biotech ecosystem in China, you will be responsible for strategic scouting within China’s biotechnology ecosystem to support Givaudan’s research and innovation capabilities supporting the 2030 Procurement Strategy’s competitive advantage pillar activities. In this role, you will identify and evaluate emerging biotech opportunities, partners, and suppliers in China that can bring innovative, sustainable, and differentiating solutions to Givaudan. You will collaborate closely with Sciences & Technology, Operations, and Procurement teams to translate external biotech potential into tangible sourcing opportunities and innovation enablers. Through data-driven scouting and supplier assessments, you will contribute to sourcing decisions that reinforce Givaudan’s competitive edge and accelerate the development of biotech-derived ingredients that shape the company’s future portfolio.
You’ll be part of our dynamic Biotech Procurement team, mapping opportunities, identifying collaborations, and building relationships that will advance our next generation of sustainable ingredients for Taste, Scent, and Beauty.

Explore and connect: Map and analyse the Chinese biotech landscape, with a strong focus on emerging and established companies, pioneering businesses. Foster collaboration across internal teams and external partners to unlock new opportunities.

Scout innovation: Dive into scientific literature, conferences, and innovation biotech forums to spotlight disruptive ideas, technologies and products that can strengthen Givaudan’s biotech edge based on Divisional innovation needs.

Collaborate and align: Translate discoveries into strategic opportunities, working closely with Procurement category managers, Science & Technology, and Industrialization teams to assess fit and activate collaborations.

Shape partnerships: Build and maintain trusted relationships with key external collaborators and suppliers. You will coordinate contractual processes to ensure compliance, manage risks effectively, and contribute to sustainable, long-term growth in a dynamic market environment.

Drive sourcing excellence as per our 2030 Procurement strategy while supporting our sustainability ambitions.

Empower decision-making: Track and prioritize biotech opportunities across China, bringing clarity and insight to sourcing, partnership, make-or-buy choices and resource allocation.

Collaborate closely with Science & Technology, Operations, Legal, Finance, Procurement Category Managers to align procurement actions with technical and strategic priorities.

Your professional profile includes:

PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or related Life Sciences discipline, with a strong focus on bio-fermentation and/or biocatalysis (bio-enzymes).

Deep understanding of China’s biotech ecosystem and ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
-
Additional education or certification in Project Management or Procurement is a plus.
-
5+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, procurement innovation scouting, preferably within the life sciences, food or specialty ingredients industries.

Proven experience building or managing innovation partnerships with universities, research institutes, suppliers in China.
-
Strong expertise in biomanufacturing technologies (e.g. fermentation, enzymatic processes, cell-free systems, microbial platforms) and their applicability to ingredient development.

Experience in global organization and being able to navigate in a matrix environment is required

Proven record of managing complex technology and projects

Knowledge of F&F/FMCG/Biotech industry
