We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering (Mobile Technical Lead).

Principal responsibilities

Establish and sustain the Android engineering community across Mobile Foundation, Channel Transformation and partner teams, including cadence, knowledge sharing and communities of practice

Lead (and govern the adoption of) the definition of the 'HSBC way' of engineering Android mobile apps
-
Helping with designing, maintaining and improving the CI/CD tools and build pipelines
-
Collaborate with technical leaders and product owners to contribute to product and project strategy, code standards, roadmap definition, and requirements gathering
-
Collaborate with the recruiting team and regional Heads of Engineering to attract, onboard and retain diverse top talent

Champion modern Android engineering practices (automation-first testing, inner source reuse, secure-by-design, continuous delivery) and ensure they are adopted through coaching, enablement and governance.

Provide architectural leadership for Android and contribute to broader mobile architecture alignment, including defining reference patterns and decision records.

Grow Android engineering capability through mentoring, communities of practice, curated learning paths, and targeted improvement initiatives (e.g., testing maturity, performance, modularization).

Work with squads, product owners, agile coaches and key stakeholders to deliver world-class Android engineering enablement (tooling, standards, templates, reference implementations and documentation).

Actively participate in the Mobile Engineering Discipline and associated communities.
Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications
-
BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

Extensive native Android development experience in large-scale environments, with strong proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android tooling

Proven experience as a Lead/Senior/Staff Android Engineer (or equivalent) in a large-scale mobile environment

Strong mentoring and coaching capability, uplifting junior/mid engineers and supporting tech leads through enablement and guidance.

Participating in technical Show & Tells

Experience with open source / inner source ways of working, promoting reuse, contribution and shared ownership across teams

You have experience in fostering a strong engineering culture in an agile and DevOps environment

Track record of identifying and implementing opportunities to enable Android / iOS engineers to develop more productively and with high quality

Experience collaborating effectively across multiple engineering centers in multiple territories
