The Lead Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and integrity management of the hull structure, topsides modules, and marine equipment foundations for our FPSO and FSO conversion and newbuild projects. This role involves ensuring all structural designs meet strict technical requirements, project specifications, and international classification/regulatory standards. The Engineer will primarily support projects executed in or sourced from the Asia-Pacific region, including detailed engineering work in Shanghai.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural Design and Analysis:
- Perform comprehensive Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for primary and secondary hull structures, topsides module supports, and equipment foundations, focusing on fatigue, ultimate strength, and yielding checks.
- Conduct detailed design calculations for steel structures, connections, and reinforcements using recognized codes (e.g., AISC, API RP 2A, Eurocode, DNV, ABS).
- Analyze lifting and transportation procedures for large structures and modules, ensuring structural integrity during all phases.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Develop and review technical specifications, engineering reports, design dossiers, and fabrication drawings for structural elements.
- Ensure all structural designs comply with applicable Class Society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS) and international standards relevant to offshore structures (e.g., IMO, MODU Code).
- Prepare design submittals for Class Society review and approval.
- Project Execution and Fabrication Support (Shanghai Focus):
- Provide direct technical support and clarification to fabrication yards and vendors in the Asia-Pacific region (often China and Southeast Asia), ensuring construction adheres to design specifications.
- Review and approve vendor data for structural steel, fabricated items, and associated components.
- Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and site visits to resolve structural issues that arise during fabrication and integration.
- Integrity and Modification:
- Contribute to studies for vessel life extension, modifications, and structural integrity assessments (SMA/SIA) for operating units.
QHSSE Duties – every employee shall:

Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design and analysis, with a significant portion dedicated to the Offshore Oil & Gas industry (FPSO/FSO, platforms, or semi-submersibles).
- Proven experience supporting the fabrication and construction phases of large-scale marine or offshore projects, ideally at a shipyard or heavy engineering contractor.
Technical Skills
- Expert proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as ANSYS, SACS, or ABAQUS for complex structural modeling and post-processing.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of material mechanics, fatigue design, and brittle fracture analysis.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, PDMS, AVEVA Marine).
- Fluent command of design codes: DNV-OS-C101/C201, ABS Rules for Building and Classing FPSOs, API RP 2A.
