MMR Research Worldwide has big plans for our China operation, and we’re looking for a proactive and ambitious individual to join our growing sensory team as a Senior Sensory Consultant!
The role will be based either on-site at the client’s facility (Gumei Road, Shanghai) or at MMR’s partner facility (Wuning Road, Shanghai), depending on final client agreement.
Sensory Panel Leadership
- Manage the sensory panel and lead panel sessions on clients’ projects, ensuring smooth delivery of sensory research and delivering high quality descriptive analysis data.
- Liaise with the Sensory Panel Assistant to be fully proficient with the preparation and facilitation of the sensory panel(s) and product management.
- Recruit and train new panelists.
- Collect and analyze panel monitoring data and provide relevant feedback and one-to-one reviews with sensory panelists.
- Assist with product preparation and serving.
- Complete administrative duties (e.g. timesheets, scheduling, coordinating panelists and panel sessions).
- Assist with the sales, planning and delivery of sensory consultancy services. This may include recruiting and training panelists either remotely or on-site at client locations, coaching client employees and analyzing panel performance data, or providing sensory expertise as needed.
Sensory Project Management
- Establish client relationships through building trust and demonstrating expertise, to drive new business and repeat business with own clients.
- Design and create research and methodologies, and help write proposals to best meet clients’ objectives.
- Manage sensory projects, ensuring appropriate resourcing and equipment, liaising with colleagues and stats team for design and analysis, and delivering within given timing and budget constraints.
- Draw up schedules (timing, briefings, etc.) and coordinate all aspects of each project and ensure that they are issued and agreed by all relevant personnel, notifying people immediately of any changes.
- Brief and liaise with colleagues from the sensory team and other departments on all aspects of projects and create the relevant documentation/paperwork, to ensure accurate and timely execution of the research.
- Ensure that clients are kept up to date with project progress, and receive and understand draft lexicons and topline results whenever appropriate.
- Analyze sensory data providing considered reporting, interpretation and recommendations, with support from senior sensory colleagues.

Sensory panel leading experience, including descriptive analysis, is essential.
- IT literate with experience of sensory data capture software.
- A self-manager - able to switch between tasks according to business needs, coping with changing priorities and keeping the China sensory team members informed of possible issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A strong team player -able to maintain open and honest relationships with colleagues, building trust and confidence.
- Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexibly across time zones to support collaboration with global teams.
- A self-starter who likes to take initiatives and demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic environment.
- Logical and analytical mind.
- Great attention to detail.
- A Bachelor's degree, ideally in a relevant field, such as Food Science, Sensory Science, Experimental Psychology and Sociology.
