A. Formulation & Material Science Strategy (20%)
-
Cordierite & SiC Development: Lead the development of advanced ceramic batch recipes.
-
Cordierite: Optimize Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) and maximize Thermal Shock Resistance.
-
SiC: Optimize recrystallization temperatures and pore structure for DPF applications.
-
Raw Material Management & Localization:
-
Validate local sources for key minerals (Kaolin, Talc, Alumina, Silica) and organic additives (binders/lubricants) to replace expensive imported materials.
-
Manage the "impurity budget" (Fe, Na, K) to ensure low-cost materials do not degrade melting points or durability.
-
Rheology & Paste Mechanics: Direct research into paste plasticity to enable faster extrusion speeds without causing die wear or skin defects.
B. Process Development & Yield Improvement (20%)
-
Yield Management: Own the "Global Yield" target. Systematically attack scrap at every stage:
-
Green End: Reduce extrusion deformation and drying cracks.
-
Firing: Eliminate kiln cracks (dunting) and sintering deformation.
-
Finishing: Reduce chipping during grinding and plugging.
-
Process Window Definition: Establish rigid process control limits for critical variables (e.g., Mixing Torque, Extrusion Pressure, Kiln Atmosphere curves).
-
Problem Solving: Lead the "SWAT Team" for major quality crises, utilizing Six Sigma/8D methodologies to resolve complex chemical/mechanical interactions.
C. Equipment Design & Optimization (20%)
-
Custom Engineering: Lead the internal engineering team to design or modify core equipment to suit proprietary formulations.
-
Extrusion: Optimize die designs, screw geometries, and vacuum systems.
-
Calcining: Redesign kiln cart setting patterns and burner configurations to improve thermal uniformity.
-
OEE Management: Collaborate with Maintenance and Production to increase equipment uptime. Focus on reducing "Die Change" times (SMED) and increasing Kiln "Push Rates."
D. New Product Development (NPD) (15%)
-
Product Road-map: Design substrates that meet future emission standards (EPA/CARB/Euro 6/7) . Focus on:
-
Ultra-Thin Walls (e.g., 2 mil / 3 mil).
-
High Cell Density (e.g., 750/900 cpsi).
-
High Porosity DPF (Diesel Particulate Filters).
-
Customer Approval: Serve as the primary technical interface for OEM audits and Homologation testing.
E. Cost Optimization & Strategic Operations (15%)
-
BOM Cost Reduction: Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives. Calculate the cost-benefit of replacing synthetic raw materials with natural minerals.
-
Team Management: Build a world-class technical organization. Mentor young engineers, define technical career paths, and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
F. Organizational Leadership & Team Building (10%)
-
Team Construction: Recruit and structure a dual-stream technical organization:Experts in honeycomb substrate products designing, formulating and production process developing on extrusion, calcination, and cordierite/SiC microstructure.
-
Talent Development: Define technical career ladders and mentorship programs to retain top R&D talent.
-
Culture of Innovation: Foster a cross-functional environment where substrate designers work with coating chemists to create optimized "System Solutions" (e.g., substrates designed specifically for high-load coatings).
