Position Summary
The MENG’s Product Buyer is responsible for executing procurement activities across China operations, supporting sourcing, supplier management, and purchasing execution. This role focuses on supplier coordination, cost control, and ensuring reliable supply of materials and equipment aligned with business requirements.
This position reports to the Director Global Sourcing.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and partner with regional suppliers capable of manufacturing and fabricating MECS MENG’s brand industrial alloy products at highly competitive cost levels to enable market penetration and win business in price-sensitive regions.
- Drive proprietary package cost-competitiveness; select optimal suppliers, including those with vertically integrated capabilities.
- Research and establish partnerships with regional companies that own or control key value-chain assets (e.g., alloy mills, alloy fabrication, piping/nozzle fabrication, and field installation services)
- Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs); evaluate and select suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery performance
- Negotiate pricing and support long-term agreements for equipment and materials
- Drive cost savings initiatives including price reviews and supplier value improvement efforts
- Execute purchase orders; manage order entry, expediting, and transaction accuracy
- Resolve issues related to over-shipments, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and delivery changes; communicate updates to stakeholders
- Act as liaison between suppliers and internal departments to resolve procurement-related challenges
- Process non-conforming material requests and Return Material Authorizations (RMAs)
- Maintain inventory levels aligned with company targets and recommend adjustments as needed
- Ensure ERP system accuracy, including lead times, pricing, supplier data, and purchase order information
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with delivery schedules and specifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain & Procurement Management, or related field
- Master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering /logistics Engineering and Management preferred
- 5+ years of direct industrial procurement or purchasing experience
- Experience working with industrial alloy fabrication and manufacturing suppliers required
- Experience working with suppliers in China market required
- Experience with ERP systems (Epicor preferred)
- Knowledge of import/export logistics preferred
